By the middle of the 14th century, the kingdom of Nupe was feared and admired in equal measure by its neighbors, to the point that the Tangier traveler Ibn Batuta came to consider it the black Byzantium. However, we would have to wait until the end of the 18th century for the city and the kingdom to reach their greatest splendor: after falling into the hands of the Fulani hosts of Usmán Dan Fodio, a period of splendor began, during which several guilds met. artisans specialized in working with wood, leather or ceramics.
The jug that we offer at Black Market has eight mouths (seven of them surrounding the central one) and follows the tradition of Fulani ceramics, with a decoration that recalls the scarifications that the inhabitants of the kingdom used to wear, enriched in this case with the use of blue enamel.
