Mambila “sword” iron coin (Cameroon)
This piece of iron, originating from a Mambila forge near the Nigerian border of Cameroon, represents the blade of a ceremonial sword similar to those used in the courts of Benin. Considered an object of great value, it was used as currency in important transactions, such as the purchase of livestock or land, and as a wedding gift to the bride.
