Gurunsi bull (Nahouri province, Burkina Faso)

Legend has it that when, in the mid-19th century, the jihadist Baba Ato arrived in what is now southern Burkina Faso, he faced a battalion of men whose traditional medicines made them invulnerable to the emirate's weapons. Since then, the inhabitants of that voltaic region began to be known as Guru-si, which in the Djerma language means "immune to iron", an expression that, over time, led to Gurunsi.
Their neighbors have always known that Gurunsi medicine is powerful. They also know that the strength of Gur potions, herbs, and ointments comes (at least in part) from the bull that shapes the chests in which they are kept and stored. The magic and power of this animal also reaches Gurunsi homes in the form of a family idol.
The Gurunsi bull that we have in Black Market is one of those idols made of wood, with the head, neck, withers, shoulders and tail covered with braided hemp rope; the rest of the body is covered in kaolin. It is a male zebu, with clearly visible genitals and the characteristic hump of the species.

Height: 47.0cm; Length: 52.0 cm; Maximum width: 26.0 cm; Weight: 2.90 Kg.
