Grigri
Tuareg pectoral Tcherot amulet (Agadez region, Niger)
This pectoral pendant is a grigri or metal amulet that contains a little sand, a verse from the Koran and magical writings chosen by a local marabout. It was conceived as a stepped pyramid made of Berber silver (below 50% silver content), decorated with stars, aquatic symbols, zigzag lines and other drawings characteristic of Tuareg imagery. It hangs from an ornate leather cord and is sealed with an iron plate.
