Dogon horseman
Cast in bronze, in the form of a fer-noir emerged from the forge or carved in wood, the rider and his mount make up a recurring theme in Dogon imagery, where it is always found linked to extolling the glory of warrior chiefs (hogones).
In this case the rider has been represented holding the bridle with both hands, showing serene dignity, a pointed beard and a complex hairstyle indicative of his social status. The horse, a complete male, shows a docile and calm attitude, and its head is reminiscent of that of the horses of ancient Sao warriors.
