The Bambara are no different from other peoples and societies that praise the figure of a character by representing him on horseback, because an ancestor on his mount will always be seen as the proud master of ceremonies who presides over the initiation rite in any of the local societies. At the end of the day, turning him into a rider is nothing more than a way to amplify that hidden energy that the character gives off and that the Bambara called Nyama.
The Bambara knight carved in wood that we offer at Black Market is part of the Segú style, recognizable by the character's flat face, his arrow-shaped nose, by the triangular scarifications on his face and by his hands extended in the shape of shovels.
