At the end of the 19th century, the everyday trousseau of the rural world of Riff (northern Morocco) still presented the shapes and decorative motifs of the ceramics made three thousand years earlier in the regions bathed by the Alboran Sea: pieces of red clay made without a wheel, fired in excavated ovens and with simple and geometric decorations made from natural pigments. It was as if time had stopped since Tyrians and Cretans sailed past these mountains.
They are pieces of arcane beauty with a particularity: they were made and decorated by the hands of women potters for their own use.
The jug that we present in Black Market was made in the mid-19th century following a tradition inherited from mothers to daughters for centuries and always according to the process described; It has a wide mouth, a side handle and was decorated with simple motifs with black and ocher pigments.
