The Baba lounger from Babacar Diawara (Dakar, Senegal)
Babacar was born in Mali where, while still a child, he began making small bicycles with wire; Then he went to the doors of the French Institute in Bamako and sold them to expatriates and regulars.
One day he wanted to go further, he picked up his four things, got on a train and woke up in Dakar, where he set up a workshop in the Quartier Medina. For years Recycl' Shop Dakar has been that place where wire bicycles continue to be assembled, the workshop where cans of tomato paste become watering cans and table lamps, or where a handful of Coca Cola caps , Sprite or Cerveza de la Gazelle are transformed into boxes to store letters and postcards.
Everything was going well, but Babacar was always an ambitious guy and decided to elevate his skill and his art to the altars of design... And there and then the two-piece Baba lounger with more than a thousand sheets was born. Partially removable, solid and (I assure you) quite comfortable, Baba is that daybed that will turn his hallway (not to mention porch) into a fun and unusual place.
