Dogon window shutter (Mopti region, Mali)

It is well known that the towns and villages that line the Bandiagara fault frequently decorate the access doors to their homes and granaries or the shutters of their small windows with bas-reliefs that allude to scenes typical of their cosmogony, among which Ancestors, female breasts, totem animals, masked animals or, sometimes, horsemen and animals are recognized.
The shutter for sale presents on a single plank six centimeters thick the reliefs of the eight immortal Dogon ancestors (four women and four men) before their metamorphosis, separated into two groups by a band of four female breasts, a useful symbol of fertility among the Dogon.
