Bone necklace – origin Cameroon – (origin: Koforidua, Ghana)

Since we humans began to be humans, we have always had a tendency to adorn our bodies with beads made of various materials. Some are ephemeral; others, on the contrary, can be worn over and over again and, therefore, must be made with firm and persistent materials.

Until our ancestors began to work metals, all these ornaments were made with materials that were easy to obtain in the immediate environment: amulets made of stones, wood, ivory, carved seashells and bone, or molded and fired clay hung from their sturdy necks. Then copper, bronze, glass or, much later, plastic would arrive, and then the beads made with these materials began to fill our lives.

Now everything seems more modern, but... In reality, those natural elements of yesteryear never disappeared, and Djenné terracotta beads, Ghanaian bauxite beads, cowrie strings or bone beads continue to shine in the catalogs of beads and charms.

The necklace we propose now is a spectacular design, recently made, in which twenty cylindrical bovine bone beads (around 45 mm in length and 27 mm in section) adorned with pyrography "eyes" in the style of ancient Bantu beads They are lined up along a cotton cord of about 112 cm.
