They say that, among the more than four hundred spirits (Orishas) sent by the Supreme Maker (Olodumare) to assist humans, Shangó is the lord of thunder and storm, the judge who controls the fire and dispenses justice and the right hand of Olorum, one of the manifestations of Olodumare.
Shangó is also the one who, during his time on Earth, turned out to be the most virile, violent and unpredictable of the kings of Oyo, the son of Yemayá, the father of the Ibeji twins and the enemy and mirror image of Hevioso, his neighbor. Fon. He is recognized by the double-edged labri, with which he is capable of fertilizing crops or striking down evildoers, as he sees fit. Shangó grants command capacity to the one who wields it when he is represented crowning a scepter.
The scepter that we offer in Black Market represents Shangó on the back of Esinlo, his horse and inseparable companion. The orisha is crowned by a large labri or double-edged axe, on whose blades the typical Yoruba facial scarifications have been engraved.
