Canari Fulani (Inner Niger River Delta, Mali)

Fulani jars from the Inner Niger River Delta are made by female hands. They are the women of the blacksmiths settled in permanent villages, the same ones that supply transhumant Fulani people to fill them with water or grain, and Bozo fishermen to make the fish oil with which, later, Bambaras, Tuaregs, Songhais and, therefore, Of course, Fulanis will add flavor to their rice and millets. This "canari" for sale is decorated with a crest that surrounds the mouth under which two series of triangles follow each other in a concentric manner. The piece could have been part of a bride's trousseau in the 1920s. Its base is rounded, as is usual in vessels used in the sandy soil near the river.
