Amma, the creator god of everything, one day asked Nommo, one of the twins who emerged from the water, to fill the barren Earth with life and populate it with beings with souls. In order to carry out such an enormous task, Nommo killed Ayo Geu, the prince of the crocodiles, and with his skin he built an ark in which four women and two other men also boarded. Those seven sailors ended up becoming the primordial ancestors of the Dogon people, the same ones who appear on the doors of their granaries.
The lost wax bronze work is the work of an Irim artisan, the endogamous sect of blacksmiths.
