Watt Watt is the chef d'oeuvre of Hamed Ouattara's workshop (or Wattara, depending on who spells and writes it), a perfect universe geographically removed from the proud, but always absorbed capitals of world design.
Ouattara (or Wattara) breathes Ouagadougou, that place away from everything, where everything deserves a second use, a second chance. It is mandatory: there is no alternative or excuse in a country where equipment arrives in dribs and drabs and electricity outages are our daily occurrence; a country where everything, from tools to nails, must be made by hand.
There everyone is forced to follow that path, but what makes Ouattara special is that, where others do not see beyond the utilitarian, he distills all the ancient essence of Africa to turn scrap metal into works of art and unused drums into those fully functional minimalist furniture that have managed to surprise the avant-garde of New York, London or Paris.
